Michael G. Garber holds a Ph.D. as a theatre and film historian, with a specialization in the American musical. He is an expert on American popular songs of the first half of the twentieth century. He lectures on these subjects in a wide variety of settings, including for academic audiences, community groups, and students of all ages.
He also has a diploma from the Institute for Music and Health (IMH). He has studied with Dr. John Diamond, founder of the IMH and developer of the Diamond Method for Music, for a quarter of a century.
The goal is the same for all the music programs that Dr. Garber organizes and leads: to get participants activated through music—singing, dancing, feeling the music, thinking about it—for the purpose of lifting people’s spirits and encouraging positive social interactions.
